Perry Park’s schedule for the 2019–2020 season does not include after school Monday freestyle sessions or after school public sessions. Please see Club President Amy Browning’s message below for more information.

Hello All,

Last night all the user groups of Perry Ice Rink met to discuss how we can all cooperate and communicate effectively to share the space at Perry Ice Rink.  Some of you may already be aware, but there are 2 new hockey groups utilizing the ice as well as the South Stars.  The hockey groups are still finalizing their schedules, but thankfully our calendar is set.  However, with 3 hockey groups now utilizing ice time, many public skate and freestyle sessions have been eliminated.  Once the hockey teams have their tournaments and games scheduled (hopefully by early October), additional freestyle times will likely be added to the schedule.  I will be able to communicate those in a fairly timely manner, but for now the schedule that we do have to work with is below.  Again, the times are not ideal, but Paul is working to try to convince the higher ups in the Parks Department that additional ice is needed at Perry so he’s filling ice space everywhere.  We must remember that more time will likely be added on Saturday and Sundays after game times are set.  Paul scheduled in several hours on Friday night, Saturday afternoon and evening, and lots of time on Sunday for games.  Not all these times will be needed so more will be added, but perhaps not at a set time each week.

Monday freestyle 2:00-3:50 pm.
Friday freestyle 4:00 pm-5:10 pm

Public skate times M-F are 11:50 am-1:50 pm
Saturday 2:00-4:00 pm
Sunday 3:00-5:00 pm

There is not a lot of ice time in the evenings or after school throughout the week due to all the hockey leagues.  I tried to fight for a better freestyle time on Monday, but he said it was the best he could do.  The Total Package Hockey people may be interested in beginning a figure skating program if anyone is interested (essentially skating instruction, conditioning, and then online schooling).  Again Paul reminded everyone that we would all have to compromise and give a little while he is working to hopefully convince Indy Parks that we need another sheet of ice full time.

If you are concerned about having plenty of practice time, I encourage you to utilize our club ice times on Wednesdays from 6:20 pm- 7:50 pm and Saturdays from 10:40 am- 12:10 pm.  Ice package information will be sent out after our July board meeting.  The Specialty class times are 12:10 pm-12:40 pm, and Learn to Skate times are 12:40-1:40 pm on Saturdays throughout the season.

I will continue to keep you posted on the schedule for freestyles and public skates.  I know many things are very different this year, but remember change can be a good thing in the end.  If it gets us a second sheet of ice, then it may be worth the sacrifices now.  Please let me know if you have further questions.

Photo: Sycamore ISC skaters showed their disappointment when our 2017–2018 season ended months early due to mechanical problems. While we’re grateful those problems have been fixed, we’re disappointed the rink’s new schedule reduces after school freestyles and public sessions from five to one. Sycamore ISC will continue offering Wednesday and Saturday club ice.
